I am writing to you, on behalf of our Parish of St John the Evangelist, Hills Road, Cambridge, to invite your organisation to join us for the official opening event of our new St John’s Centre, on Saturday 28th September from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
For the past few years, St John’s Church has been developing a vision of ‘Enlarging our Tent’, extending our present community facilities, to provide accessible toilets, a fully refurbished kitchen, and wider disabled access, in order to offer our new St John’s Centre for the benefit of the wider community in South Cambridge and the Queen Edith’s Ward.
Working with Cambridge City Council and other local partners, our vision is to enhance our role in community partnership, developing a community hub, alongside other local centres. We are committed to serving the common good of our local community, whatever people’s faith or cultural background. Thankfully, due to the generosity of our various project sponsors, the hard work, commitment and generosity of our own community, this project is nearing its final completion, on 10th August.
We should be delighted if current and potential users of the facilities at St John’s would join us to celebrate the official opening of the new centre on Saturday 28th September. This event will provide an opportunity for local organisations to showcase their activities, make contact with the wider community, meet other community groups, talk to potential new members and recruit volunteers.
Display space will be available throughout the day (from 10.00am to 3.00pm) on tables either in the church or the garden outside, depending on the weather. Musical entertainment, refreshments and buffet lunch, will be available. The Bishop of Ely, the Rt. Revd. Stephen Conway, will lead the formal opening ceremony at 3.00pm, followed by a celebratory tea. A final performance by the combined choirs of St John’s Church and Homerton College at 3.15 will conclude the official opening ceremony.
I should be most grateful if you would confirm the attendance of your group or organisation by completing and returning the enclosed form.
